EL SALVADOR
The Republic of El Salvador is a central american country bordered by Guatemala and Honduras. San Salvador is the capital city. El Salvador gained independence fro Spain in 1821 and left the central american federation in 1839. A treaty was signed in 1992 to end a bloody civil war, the treaty allowed for some political and military reforms. In 2001, the central bank established the US dollar as the accounting unit and have announced that they intend withdrawing all other notes and coins.
monetary unit: 1 colon = 100 centavos (1919 - 2001)
The note above is a 1 colon note from 1966 but with a overprint on the back from July 1967, which is quite normal as they seemed to reissue notes regularly at that point. the building at the front is the central bank, while on the reverse is a portrait of Christopher Columbus
