FESTIVAL MAYO YA !

Here we have the 20 cordobas note from Nicaragua. The note, as with a lot of new notes is a polymer note featuring the  Iglesia Morava laguna de perlas (Moravian church of the pearl lagoon) on the front . this note has 3 see through panels one of which  has a smokey colour to it.  On the reverse we have ladies from the festival of "Mayo Ya"  which seems to be a fusion of may day and afro carribean celebrations.

NICARAGUA

The Republic of Nicaragua, is the biggest country in Central America. Its capital city is Managua. In 1536, the vice-royalty of New Spain was declared and then in 1821 what is now Nicaragua, became part of the first Mexican empire. Nicaragua became an independent republic in 1838. In 1979 after a revolution, the FSLN (Sandanistas) took government with the backing of large sections of the population and with the support of the catholic clergy. The Sandanistas set up a council of national reconstruction led by Daniel Ortega. Rebel groups funded and supported by the CIA called the Contras kept up a civil war over the next 5 years until the Sandanistas were defeated at the 1990 elections.
