this is the 100 peso note from Mexico. it was issued in 1982. the front has Venustiano Carrnza, a leader of the mexican revolution, with a stone figure on the reverse.

CHIHUAHUA - REVOLUTIONARY MEXICO

The Free and Sovereign State of Chihuahua, is one of the 32 Federal entities of Mexico. Its capital city is Chihuahua.  In 1872, Porfirio Diaz took power in Mexico and ruled as a dictator over the next 4 decades. diaz undid lots of the Land reforms put in place to empower the small farmers and peasants which led to the Mexican Revolution  which threw up leaders such as "Pancho Villas", Zapata and Madero.

The 5 Peso Note above is from the State of Chihuahua is from 1914. This bank note was produced by Pacho Villa while he was governor of the state of Chihuahua and has two men who he admired on the front - Francisco Madero, 33rd president of Mexico and Abraham Gonzales, the previous governor of Chihuahua and Villa's political mentor.

The United States of Mexico, with it's capital, Mexico city, is the most northerly country in central america.Mexico has been the home of some of the most advanced civilisations of their time up until the Spanish conquistador Hernando Cortes defeated the Aztec emperor Montezuma in 1521. the Spanish Colony, then called New Spain, lasted for 300 years and stretched from modern day Guatemala to the southern states of the USA . The present borders being formed after the 1846 -48 war with the united states.

Independence was declared in 1810 by Father Maguel Hildalgo but actually achieved in 1821 by General Augustin de Iturebide, who declared himself emperor for a year before being deposed to set up a republic in 1822. after many years of turmoil and dictatorships , Mexico is now a stable democracy.

This note is a 2000 pesos note from 1987, featuring Justo Sierra on the front with the National autonomous university building . The Reverse has a 19th Century courtyard depicted.
