THREE MAHATMA GANDHI NOTES

 

Above is a lovely part set of Indian rupee notes. The first note is the 20 Rupee note in a kind of olive colour and was issued in 2020. The front has Mahatma Gandhi and the reverse has the Ellora  caves and a cute picture of Gandhi’s  spectacles.

The second note, in a turquoise colour, is the 50 rupee note from 2019, the front has the Mahatma on the front. The reverse has a monument from Hampi.

The third note is the purple 100 rupee note from 2018. Again the, mahatma on the front and Rani ki vav  on the reverse.

One the back of these note, there is a panel with 15 languages . Hindi and English are the main languages but the panel has the following languages

The symbol for rupee  (₹) 

BANK OF MAURITIUS 25 RUPEE NOTE

The note above is the 25 Rupee (Rs) from Mauritius from 2013. it has a portrait of Sir Jean Moilin Ah-chuen founder of the ABC banking corporation and , in 1969, a member of the government of the newly independent Mauritius , on the front and a fisherman  and the island of Rodrigues on the reverse.

CEYLON OR SRI LANKA

These two notes are both using two different formats of printing orientation - landscape on the front and portrait on the reverse. They are both from Sri Lanka (ceylon) . The top note is the 10 rupee note issued by the central bank of ceylon ( even tho the bank was called the central bank of Sri Lanka from 1950). it has the Malibar Grey Hornbill sitting on a Pebble Tamarind tree. The reverse has 4 native species  to sri lanka - yellow eared bulbul, gunthers whipping frog , rhododendron and a form of crocus.

The second note is the 1995 50 rupee from the central bank of Sri Lanka. The front has a male dancer in traditional costume and the reverse had a shield and sword .

NEPAL ROYAL MASSACRE

This is a nice clean 1 rupee note from Nepal. It has King Birenda Bir Bikram Shah and a temple on the front and two musk deer on the reverse.

the king was one of the victims of the Nepalese royal massacre in 2001.

NEPALI NOTE WITH MOUNT EVEREST

This is the 20 rupee note from Nepal. It was issued in 2008  and has Mount Everest on the front and a swamp deer on the reverse. the notes are issued by Nepal Rastra Bank which is the central bank of Nepal 

A BETTER 5 RUPEE NOTE

This note is not a new one to the collection it is a replacement for one I have had for a  few years but in much worse condition you can see the description HERE below is the original note in the collection'

DONATED NOTES

All the notes in this post were given to me by one of my colleagues who I met while counting the postal ballots at the "brexit" referendum. Mary does a lot of travelling and had a few notes hanging about which she passed on to me. Thank you . Good luck on your travels.

The first two notes are from the African Continent .The first one is the 1000 shillings from Uganda and dated as 2015.The reverse of the note, as well as some antelope it also has the outline of the country's borders with a line where the equator travels across the country. The second, slightly older note is from 2013 and comes from Ghana. The 5 Cedis note has the big six and independence arch on the front and on the reverse is the university of Ghana and the Balme library

These next two notes, from the Asian continent, are from Malaysia and Sri Lanka respectively.
The first is the 1 Ringgit and although it has no date on it it has to be after 2012 and has T A Rahman on the front with a Malaysian moon kite on the reverse.
the second note is a 10 rupee from Sri Lanka with the lion on the front and the stork and government secritariat building as well as flowers at the bottom.

This next note is from the UAE and is the 10 Diram note from 2007 sporting the Khanjar , the ceremonial dagger of the region. on the front  and a farm with a bird of prey on the lower left.

The final note is the Polish 20 Zlotych note from 1994 with Boleslaw I , the first king of Poland with one of his silver Denar coins on the reverse.

ONE MORE IN THE SRI LANKAN SERIES

The note above is the 500 rupee note from Sri Lanka and makes up the part of the new series - only the 1000 and 2000 rupee notes to get !! I will let the central bank of Sri Lanka describe the note -

 Front of the Note
The front of the note depicts an artist’s impression of the World Trade Center and Bank of Ceylon headquarters in the city of Colombo and the ancient Buddhist temple ‘Lankathilaka Viharaya’ at Kandy in the background. The bird Sri Lanka Emerald Collared Parakeet (Layard’s Parakeet - Psittacula calthropae) is depicted on the right of the note and on the lower left side appears the butterfly, The Ceylon Indigo Royal (Tajuria arida).

Back of the Note
On the back of the note, when held vertically, a Thelme Netuma dancer and a Yak Bera drummer are depicted. On the top right of the note appears a Padmanidhi guard stone and a Dvithva liya vela (a stylised floral design) along the right side of the note.

SRI LANKA COMMEMORATIVE NOTE

Above is the commemorative banknote from Sri Lanka. It commemorates 50 years of independence from Britain - 1948-1998. Formerly called Ceylon under the British colonisation . This note is the 200 Rupee note from 1998. It has a temple on the front with a fresco along the bottom. On the reverse is the royal palace in Kandy.

NOTES THAT I MISSED

These notes I received last April but for some reason I had not added them to the blog and it wasn't until I went to check if I had them while shopping online that I realised I couldn't find them.

So here we are 3 notes from Sri lanka ( formerly Ceylon ). all 3 are dated from 2010 but listed on the Central bank of Sri lanka wikipedia page as 2011.

The top note is the 20 Rupee note with the Serendib scops owl on the front, Next is the 50 rupee note with the Dull-blue flycatcher on the front and finally, the 100 rupee note with the Orange-billed Babbler on the front. All 3 have musicians and dancers in traditional dress on the reverse.

ADDITION TO THE BURMA COLLECTION

These Notes are to add to the collection of Myanmar / Burmese notes issued under the japanese occupation of 1942- 45. see more HERE

The Notes above are the half Rupee and the 5 Rupee. Both note are from 1942. the half Rupee has a BD Serial number whereas the 5 Rupee has a serial number of BB..

now it leaves the smaller denominations to collect - 1 cent, 5 cent, 10 cent and the quarter rupee!!

DIFFERENT RUPEE, DIFFERENT COUNTRY

This note from Nepal has a beautiful picture of a leopard on the reverse. The leopard is not an animal that i would associate with Nepal, I may be more likely to say Yeti or Yaks but leopards inhabit territory from Siberia to sub Saharan Africa and they are gorgeous if dangerous animals. Jim Corbett's " the man eating leopard of Rudraprayag" was his account of hunting a leopard who was reputed to have killed over 125 people. The area Jim Corbett operated in, at the beginning of the 20th century, was an Indian Provence on the Nepal border.

........ but back to the note!!!! this is a 2 Rupee note from 1981. It has King Birendra on the front. King Birendra ruled Nepal from 1972 until the Nepalese royal massacre in 2001. The massacre occurred when Prince Dipendra killed 9 members of the royal family and then committed suicide.

A NEATER NOTE FROM INDIA

I have a similar 5 Rupee note but this one is uncirculated (unc) and a lot cleaner. They have a similar reverse with the tractor ploughing but the front of this one has Mohandas K Gandhi, probably the most famous Indian of all time, blazoned across the note. Its quite a colourful wee note with a watermark of the same portrait of Gandhi and a metal strip, which you can see just to the left of Gandhi. The note is from 2010.
