The Congo Republic, shares a lot of its history with it's neighbour, Congo Democratic Republic, both gained independence from France in 1960. there then followed a period of marxist government which was overthrown in 1990. from 1973 the Congo republic was a member of the Central African States Bank (BEAC)

the note is a 500 franc note from 1990 issue by the BEAC but specifically fro the Congo Republic.
