SIR AHMADU BELLO ON THE 200 NAIRA NOTE

This note has seen a lot of traffic as it is from 2005 and has been well circulated. it is a Nigerian note and features Sir Ahmadu Bello , who was the first premier of Northern Nigeria, On the back of the 200 Naira Note is fruit and vegetables and a couple of cows - which seems to have been a theme over the last few notes - I suppose cattle are important to many cultures around the world including the Scottish culture (Aberdeen Angus Beef)

MORE FROM NIGERIA

This note is the 50 Naira note from 2009 although this design has been in circulation since 2007. It has 4 Nigerians - 3 men and 1 woman - on the front and Fishermen on the reverse.

NIGERIAN POLYMER NOTES

These notes are more modern versions of the Nigerian currency, the Naira. To see the other notes in the Nigerian collection see HERE and for the Biafra notes see HERE.

The notes above start with the 20 Naira note from 2007. The front has a portrait of General Murtala Ramat Muhammed  military ruler of Nigeria in 1975/76.

Next is the 10 Naira note from 2009, with Alvan Ikoku, a Nigerian educator and political activist on the front of the note.

Finally is the 5 Naira note from 2009, with Abubakar_Tafawa_Balewa Nigerian prime minister from 1960 - 66 on the front of the note.

all 3 notes are made of Polymer and have a clear window with a design instead of a watermark.

NIGERIA

The Federal Republic of Nigeria, is a country in West Africa. once a British colony, it gained its independence in 1960. in 1967 the southern state of Biafra declared independence which started a 30 month long civil war. Nigeria's capital city is Lagos.

Monetary units:

1 pond = 20 shillings = 240 pence ( up to 1973)
1 Naira (10 shillings) = 100 Kobo (1973 - onwards)

The notes above are the 20 and 10 Naira notes. the 10 Naira note has Alvan Ikoku on the front and women carrying bowls on the reverse. whereas the 20 Naira note has General Murtala Mohammad and the country coat of arms on the reverse.

BIAFRA

The Republic of Biafra, was a break-away state from Nigeria and existed between 1967 and 1970, when it was reclaimed by Nigeria.

the 3 notes here are a one pound (£1), and 10 and 5 shillings (10 /- , 5/- )

All the notes are from the 1968-9 issue which also had a £5 and a £10 , the first issue from 1967 issued a 5/- and a £1 only
