RHODESIA

Rhodesia was an unrecognised state in southern Africa, now called Zimbabwe. originally a self-governing British colony called south Rhodesia (1923 - 1953).Britain then set up a federation of south Rhodesia, North Rhodesia (now Zambia)and Nyasaland (now Malawi)calling it Rhodesia and Nyasaland (1953 -63).After the breakup of the federation the President, Ian Smith declared Rhodesia independent in 1965 .After a long Guerilla war and world sanctions because of the minority whites only government, the country reverted to colonial status briefly(1979-80), when it was referred to as  Zimbabwe Rhodesia. Finally in 1980 the country became fully independent under the name of Zimbabwe. The capital city of Rhodesia was Salisbury, now called Harare.

Monetary unit:
1 Pound = 20 Shillings= 240 pence (up to 1970)
1 Dollar = 100 cents (1970-1980) after 1980 see Zimbabwe.

I have to say that if you research Rhodesia / Zimbabwe on the net, there are loads of misinformation, vagueness and confusion , so hopefully the dates above are correct - I took the consensus of the information I found. Please correct me if they are wrong .

The notes above are the 10,2, and 1 Dollar note. The 10 dollar note is from 1975 with the coat of arms and a Sable Antelope on the front and ruins on the reverse . The 2 dollar note has the coat of arms on the front and a great picture of Victoria falls on the reverse, its from 1977. The 1 dollar note, from 1978, has the coat of arms with , what looks like, a carved eagle on the front. on the back it has a field of tobacco plants.
