MONGOLIA

Mongolia, my friend Cat's favourite country, is a landlocked country between China and Russia. Once a great empire under the control of Genghis Khan, Mongolia came under the influence of china. In 1921 independence was declared and in 1924, with soviet backing, the Mongolian Peoples Republic was formed. In 1992, a new constitution was introduced and the "Peoples Republic" was dropped from the country name, and multi party elections held. The capital is Ulan Bator

Monetary unit: 1 Tugrik = 100 Mongo

The note above is the 1 Tugrik note from 1955 with the portrait of Damdin Sukhbaatar on the front along with the country emblem.

The notes above are the 1 and 3 Tugrik notes from 1983. The 3 Tugrik note has again a portrait of Damdin Sukhbaatar but the 1 Tugrik only has the number 1 on a geometric design. the watermark on both is a stylised 6 petal flower design.

The note above is the 1993 1 Tugrik note featuring a snow lion on the from and  the Soyombo symbol on the reverse. The watermark is a young Genghis Khan.

and finally, these are the 10 and 20 Tugrik notes. The 10 Tugrik note is from 2005, whereas the 20 Tugrik note is from 2002. Both have a young Damdin Sukhbaatar on the front with horses on the back.
