The Republic of Namibia is a country in southern Africa. Otto van Bismark, in 1884 , took Namibia as a German colony to stop the British, it was then renamed German south west Africa. After the first world war, the league of nations gave it to South Africa as a mandate. In 1966 the Peoples liberation army of Namibia, the armed wing of SWAPO began a guerilla war which ended in independence in 1990. the capital city is Windhoek
