TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO



The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago is an island country which lies of the NE coast of Venezuela. Its capital is Port of Spain. Christopher Columbus first came across the island in 1498 when it  was inhabited by Amerindians. At first it was a colony of Spain and then colonised with French settlers and finally the British military took control in 1798 making it a British crown colony 5 years later. the country became independent in 1962 and severed links with the British monarchy in 1976 to become a Republic within the commonwealth.

The Note above is the 5 dollar note from the 2002 issue with the coat of arms and the Blue crowned Motmot bird on the front , on the reverse is the modern bank building and women at a produce stall.
