SWITZERLAND

The Swiss Confederation is a federal parliamentary republic in Central Europe. It doesn't have a capital city as such - the Swiss federal constitution doesn't allow for one but Bern is the de facto capital. Switzerland, as a modern state, was formed in 1848 by the adoption of the Swiss federal constitution. this constitution was revised in 1891 enshrining strong values of direct democracy. Switzerland was neutral in both world wars. it is a member of the UN but not of NATO or the EU.
