TRANSNISTRIA

Transnistria is an unrecognised de facto independent state situated mostly in Moldova , on the border with Ukraine.its capital city is Tiraspol. In 1792 the entire region which included Moldova and Transnistria , became part of the Russian Empire. up until 1924 when it became the Moldovan Autonimous Soviet Socialist Republic (ASSR) and in 1940 became the Moldovan SSR. one year later it was invaded by Germany and the axis Powers, Romania took control of the area until the red army liberated it in 1944. In 1990, ethnic tensions rose between Moldovans and the people of Transnistria and later in 1990 war broke out between the two sides. a ceasefire was negotiated in 1992 which has held.

The two notes above are from the 1994 issue and are ; the 10 Rublei note with Alexander Vassilievitch Suvurov on the front and the parliament building on the reverse. The 5 Rublei note is similar but printed in blue instead of red
