ST PIERRE AND MIQUELON



St Pierre and Miquelon is a self governing overseas collectivity of France. it is two islands of the Atlantic coast of Canada. Its capital city is St Pierre. the Islands were first discovered by  the Portuguese in 1520. although they were deserted, there is evidence of earlier "first nation" inhabitance. it was made a French possession in 1536. It was ceded to the British after the War of Spanish Succession in 1713. At the end of the seven years war , France ceded all her north american colonies but St Pierre and Miquelon was returned to her. In 1958 the island voted to remain a territory of France.

Monetary Unit : 1 franc = 100 centimes up to 1960
                       1 nouvelle franc = 100 old francs (1960 - 2002)
                       1 euro = 100 cents ( onwards)

The note above is from the 1950-60 issue. It is the 20 Francs note with Emile Gentil , on the front and African men on the reverse.
