SYRIA



The Syrian Arab Republic is a country in the north west of the Arabian peninsula. its capital city is Damascus. In 1516, the area now known as Syria was conquered by and incorporated in to, the Ottoman empire. After world war I, the region was split between the British and French empires, yria becoming British. Syria then became a league of nations mandate in 1920. that year the short lived Kindom of Syria was established under Faisal I but soon was taken by the French. in 1946 The French were forced to leave and the republican government took over. 1966 saw the Ba'athist take control of the government.

1 Pound (livre) = 100 Piastres

The note above is the 10 pound note from 1991 ( AH 1412 ) which has the al-azem palace and a dancing lady on the front and a water treatment plant on the reverse.
