MALDIVES




The Republic of Maldives is an archipelago in the Indian Ocean South West of India. Its capital is Male. The Maldives was a sultanate under the protection of, first, the Dutch and then the British. It gained independence in 1965 and became a republic in 1968. It was a one party state until 2004 when the constitution was changed to allow political parties.

The note here is a 5 Rufiyaa note from AH 1421 (2000) with a dhow on the front right and fishing boat scene on the reverse.
