Malaya, sometimes referred to as British Malaya, a former member of the British commonwealth, had its capital city as Kuala Lumpur. Malaya was occupied by Japan from 1941 - 1945. its was granted independence in 1957 and in 1963 became part of the federation of Malaysia.
