IRAN
The Islamic republic of Iran has its capital city of Tehran. Until 1935 it was known as Persia and became an Islamic republic in 1979 after a revolution exiled the Shah ( the monarch ) setting up a religious government with Ayatolllah Khomeini as the Supreme leader. For most of the 1980's Iran and Iraq fought a bloody war, US and Iranian relations have been strained since that time.

1 Shahi = 50 dinars )
1 qiran = 20 shahis ) (AH 1241 - AH 1344; SH 1204 - SH 1309; 1825 - 1931)
1 Toman = 20 qirans )
1 Shahi = 5 Dinars )
1 rial = 20 Shahi = 100 dinars )SH 1310 (1932) onward
1 Toman = 10 rials )
Tomans are not used in modern currency but people often refer to it in daily life.
The note above is the 100 Rials note from 198 with Ayatollah Modarres on the front and the parliament building on the reverse. this one has a watermark of Ayatollah Khomeini.
