FASCIST PUPPET STATE OF CROATIA BUT NICE NOTES

These are a couple of wonderful notes from Croatia. They are the 1000 kuna and 5000 kuna notes from 1943. Unfortunately the scans don't do the colours Justice, particularly the reds of the 5000 kuna note are quite striking.

the 5000 kuna note, produced in Zagreb, has some lovely decoration and a box with a cross on it - could it be a pulpit? and thepanel with the denomination in it has almost an Islamic pattern feel to it. The reverse has a couple in traditional dress.

The 1000 kuna note is a bit plainer but still is quite intricate in the centre of the front is a frieze with two panels , The top being a battle / cavalry scene and the bottom a hunting scene. The reverse has two women in traditional dress.

Croatia from 1941 until 1945 was a fascist puppet state run by both Nazi Germany and fascist Italy. it was run by the Ustase a ultra nationalist group which murdered hundreds of thousands of Serbs, Jews and Roma peoples.

The present state of Croatia does not recognise this state as a historical link
