FASCIST PUPPET STATE OF CROATIA BUT NICE NOTES

These are a couple of wonderful notes from Croatia.They are the 1000 kuna and 5000 kuna notes from 1943. Unfortunately the scans don't do the colours Justice, particularly the reds of the 5000 kuna note are quite striking.

the 5000 kuna note, produced in Zagreb, has some lovely decoration and a box with a cross on it - could it be a pulpit? and thepanel with the denomination in it has almost an Islamic pattern feel to it. The reverse has a couple in traditional dress.

The 1000 kuna note is a bit plainer but still is quite intricate in the centre of the front is a frieze with two panels , The top being a battle / cavalry scene and the bottom a hunting scene. The reverse has two women in traditional dress.

Croatia from 1941 until 1945 was a fascist puppet state run by both Nazi Germany and fascist Italy. it was run by the Ustase a ultra nationalist group which murdered hundreds of thousands of Serbs, Jews and Roma peoples.

The present state of Croatia does not recognise this state as a historical link

THE PATRON SAINT OF BULGARIA

This is the 1 Lev Note from 1999. As you can see, Bulgaria uses the Cyrillic script which makes identifying it that bit more interesting . it pictures St John of Rila, The patron saint of Bulgaria, who was, by all accounts the Bulgarian version of St Francis of Assisi, and was revered as a saint in his own lifetime, The reverse has the Monastery of Rila.

Haft Paykar ( the seven beauties) (1197)

Take not apart the good pearl from the string;
from him who is of evil nature flee.
An evil nature acts consistently:
have you not heard that Nature does not err?
The evil-natured man keeps faith with none;
the erring nature does not fail to err.
The scorpion since it is by nature bad—
to let it live's a fault, to kill it, good.
Seek knowledge,
for through knowledge you effect that doors to you be opened and not closed.
He who shames not at learning can draw forth pearls from the water,
rubies from the rock.
Whilst he to whom no knowledge is assigned—
that person (you will find) ashamed to learn.
How many, keen of mind, in effort slack,
sell pottery from lack of pearls (to sell)!
How many a dullard, through his being taught,
 becomes the chief judge of the Seven Climes!

NEW ARGENTINIAN NOTES

Above are two notes from Argentina . The first is the 1000 pesos from the 1966-69 issue with General jose de san martin , a leader in the independence movement in south america against the spanish empire. It also has a picture  of a sailing ship on the reverse.

the second note is a one peso note from the 1908-25 issue and has "liberty" on the front and under the "Un Peso" there is a box with a watermark and the way it is written helps date the  note. they all have 1 peso but it is the way the P and E is written that decides.
